Expert Reviews of LG VX8700 (Verizon Wireless)

What’s thin, supershiny, and ultrastylish? No, it’s not one of the silver Razrs. It’s the LG VX8700. This cell phone is definitely a looker, and its beauty isn’t limited to its exterior. Flip open the phone and you’ll see a bright, gorgeous display. The cell phone also sports many of the latest features: a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and (of course) a music player. However, if you want to listen to music on this cell phone, you’ll need a separate headset and probably an external MicroSD media card to store more songs than the VX8700’s limited internal memory can hold. But if you want a good-looking phone with stellar battery life and music isn’t your primary concern, check out the LG VX8700.

I have had my LG VX8700 for nearly a year and after reading some of the reviews, the cell phone quirks make sense. My cell phone gets very hot in the back where the battery is. The longer you're on the phone, the HOTTER it gets. Now the issue is that I have gone through several Bluetooth devices, from Motorola to Plantronics. This cell phone has issues supporting any Bluetooth connections. After nearly a year of Bluetooth frustration, I finally called Verizon Customer Service and they confirmed that this particular model is experiencing problems supporting Bluetooth and that I too, needed to take it to the Verizon store to have some software downloaded onto it to fix the problem. It continuously drops the Bluetooth connection whether you are on the phone or not. It will also stay connected but you cannot hear whether you are the caller or callee. This has become rather annoying.

The VX8700 cell phone met my expectations for call clarity and reception capability, and of course the sleek design and easy to use features make this cell phone a superb communication tool for work and play.

I bought this LG phone at Verizon to replace my 4-yr old Audiovox CDM8900. This phone is sleek, handsome and rugged and at the same time provides excellent reception and voice clarity. The camera is simply awesome. It is a beautiful phone. The standby battery life is very good but the talk time is less than desirable. My phone's battery went dead abruptly after 35 mins of chatting using the speaker phone still with 3 bars of battery reserve (4 is max). Took me by total surprise since I expected to have another hour or more of talk time with 3 bars and the fact that the phone didn't provide any warning of low battery. The contact list is another area that needs improvement. There's no place to enter a street address or misc notes for that contact. You can't even "cheat" by entering notes in the fax number or e-mail line since the LG system will not accept that. Many people use the cell phone as an address book too and not having this ability to enter addresses or misc notes is a major drawback to this beautiful phone. When you use the speaker phone, there's no beep to tell you that you have activated this feature.

Flimsy design, product not durable. My wife selected this phone when we renewed our contract with Verizon Wireless in Sept. 2007. In late Dec 2007 it was discovered the external display was not working properly. With 8 months of warranty remaining, I returned the phone to Verizon and was told I needed to pay $50 to replace the phone because the phone had been dropped. Verizon says the supplier will not cover this phone for warranty. There is no physical external damage to show the phone had been dropped or abused. This was confirmed by the Verizon technician. Verizon says some cell phones are just sensitive.

This phone is crap...just as the VX8600! The speaker phone sucks-you can really only hear if you have the phone up to your ear and the person on the other line can only hear you if you have it up to your mouth...what's the point of speaker then? It seems to be an LG thing because I've had three LG phones and it was the same thing for each. I'm definitely not using another LG. The features are Eh. The design is great except for the charger hook up which has broken on me twice leaving me with having to get another phone. The battery is horrible and that with turning the LCD off and replacing the battery. It's very disappointing and it sucks that Verizon will only allow you to upgrade every two years otherwise you have to pay full price despite the fact that they sold you a crap phone.
